In the beginning of 2018 I decided to leave my still-photography-centered comfort zone and experimented with making short videos. Since the camera I had recently acquired had a long telephoto lens, I figured the best place to start would be nature and wildlife. I went to the best place I know of to find wildlife, Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Morris County NJ. I made two videos in 2018, the first “Winter at Great Swamp” was filmed in January over the span of 4 days. The second video was made in April and May, titled “Spring Time in the Swamp”. The videos have been posted to my YouTube channel.
Recently, I stopped by the Helen C Fenske Visitor Center at Great Swamp and happened to mentioned to the volunteers how I had made videos that featured the swamp and its wildlife. The staff enjoyed my videos and suggested that they could become a new exhibit at the visitor center. I happily agreed, and provided them with DVDs of my videos.
The two videos will be played in their respective seasons at the visitor center. I encourage everyone with an interest in nature and wildlife to visit the Great Swamp, and to make sure to stop by the visitor center.
I’d also like to give a special thanks to Laurel Gould, along with the rest of the Friends of Great Swamp volunteers, for featuring my videos in this new exhibit.
UPDATE:
My third Great Swamp video, this one about the swamp in the summer, is now available on Youtube.
